Welcome to The Early Years Foundation Stage Unit at St. Mary's Catholic Primary School

A very warm welcome to St Mary’s Nursery. We are delighted that you are considering St Mary’s Nursery for your child. We are proud of our wonderful setting and if you haven’t already, we would encourage you to visit with your child. We welcome children from the term following their third birthday. However, you are invited to visit and register your child at any time prior to this.

Our Nursery is unique in that we have an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Unit. At St Mary’s Nursery, we recognise that you are your child’s first and most important educator. We offer high quality education with professionally qualified, caring and motivated staff. The EYFS Unit is run by an experienced team of Early Years specialists and over seen by our Early Years Lead. The whole team believe passionately in the Early Years and work together to ensure that all children learn and develop well in a healthy, safe and stimulating environment. They believe whole-heartedly in the importance of smooth and tailored transitions between Nursery and Reception and will work together in partnership with you every step of the way.

In line with the school’s mission we believe that we are all children of God, in one community, working together. Our school’s embedded values of love, forgiveness, respect, resilience, stewardship and curiosity shape our children's lives not only now but also into adult life. We very much look forward to sharing your child’s learning journey with you over the coming years.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life. We provide a safe, quality, and consistent environment for your child to thrive. Positive relationships with staff and other children, along with our school values, are at the centre of all that we do.

Our experienced practitioners plan towards the individual next steps of our children. Our curriculum is child- led while making links to real life events and festivals. Details of out Nursery Long term plan, with possible themes we may follow, is detailed below.

Our learning environment is invaluable to the children’s development and at St. Mary’s we make use of both our indoor and outdoor learning areas to facilitate a balance of child initiated and adult led activities.

You as parents are valued as your child’s first teacher. We aim to work in close partnership with you and rely on your wealth of knowledge about your own child. At. St Mary’s Nursery we use Seesaw to capture your child’s learning journey. This is an interactive platform that, as parents, you can engage with and contribute to.
